The Flow of the Little Canal imagines the impact of young Samuel Egerton’s apprenticeship in Venice, and Canaletto’s two commissioned paintings, as having seeped into the very walls of Tatton itself. Much like Canaletto’s seemingly accurate paintings, magical versions of visual memories endure as paintings framed on the walls come alive, emerging beyond their frames to spill out across walls and furniture, interacting and impacting as the paint strokes of the great master ebb and flow like a Venice Canal. Gondolas row across mantlepieces, figures gather on books, drawings and paint swirl and spiral from one painting to another. In this original projection mapped installation Illuminos invite you to see what is felt, through the echoes of Egerton’s trip 300 years ago.
