See Me Appear

See Me Appear is an immersive artwork by Studio Peut-Porter that uses advanced virtual production techniques including virtual performance capture, augmented reality, and ambient soundscapes to bring speculative narratives of Tatton Park’s historic residents to life.

An immersive journey into the lives of Tatton Park's overlooked women

Visitors encounter the virtual characters of three women who lived at Tatton Park Estate between 1680 and 1799: Beatrix, Hester, and Elizabeth Egerton. Their imagined life stories and aspirations were developed in collaboration with actresses, creative technologists, and a professional writer, informed by conversations with Tatton Park’s historians and staff. The experience unfolds across Tatton Park Mansion’s staterooms, where immersive experiences and handcrafted physical artefacts act as portals for visitors to step into their imagined realities.

While initially inspired by Samuel’s adventures in Venice, See Me Appear shifts the perspective to the overlooked voices of his mother, sister, and daughter. By foregrounding these women, the work reflects on how history is often shaped by narrow perspectives and offers an alternative approach to historical storytelling through critical fabulation and expanding reality.
