Temporary Exhibition Volunteer, Role Description
What is an Exhibition Volunteer?
In 2026 the Mansion at Tatton Park is hosting an exciting and innovative exhibition inspired by two Canaletto paintings within the collection. ‘Beyond the View’ explores the story of one of Tatton’s eighteenth-century owners Samuel Egerton, who in 1729 made the thousand-mile journey by land and sea to his first job in Venice, the most vibrant, hedonistic and culturally dynamic city in the world. Apprenticed to the influential art dealer Joseph Smith, he found himself at the heart of a pivotal period in the early career of one of the most celebrated artists of all time, Canaletto.
The exhibition also includes installations by the artistic group Peut Porter, who have explored the women in Samuel’s family and created artistic interpretations of the lives they might have lived, creating digital augmented reality portraits, 3D art installations, soundscapes and audio-visual art. Visitors will see Samuel’s mother Elizabeth Egerton, his daughter Beatrix and his sister Hester appear and are invited to imagine the lives they may have lived.
Exhibition volunteers will work closely with the Mansion team and Room Stewards to provide a fantastic visitor experience and assistance, during opening hours. Situated at key locations, they will provide engagement with the installations, the stories and the art exhibition, helping to deliver a great all-round visitor experience.
Working with the Mansion Team you will help maintain excellent standards of visitor welcome and engagement.
This role is purely voluntary and this arrangement is not meant to be a legally binding one or an employment contract.
