The Mansion

The neo-classical Mansion sits in an elevated position in the heart of the landscaped Parkland. It houses one of the National Trust's finest libraries, an outstanding collection of Gillows of Lancaster furniture and is home to a significant collection of paintings and ceramics.

History of the Mansion Tour - explores the rich history of the Mansion and its important collections, reflecting the wealth and status of the Egerton family.

Hidden Treasures Tour - unveils the secrets behind treasured artefacts usually hidden from public view.

Upstairs/Downstairs Tour - learn about life 'below stairs' with one of our entertaining Edwardian servants on a dramatic tour of the Mansion's opulent state rooms and servants quarters.

The Gardens

The Gardens reflect generations of history at Tatton and how each Egerton influenced the design of the landscape. Designers such as Humphry Repton, Lewis William Wyatt, and Joseph Paxton have all left their mark on the Gardens. Highlights include the Japanese Garden, exotic Conservatory, impressive Italian Garden, the Arboretum, and the Walled Kitchen Garden that still provides food for the estate.

Head Gardener's Tour - journey through history and horticulture with our expert Head Gardener, Simon Tetlow, on a garden tour tailored for you.

Japanese Garden Tour - Learn about the team of Japanese horticulturists who landscaped the area more than 100 years ago.

"A big thank you to all the staff at Tatton for making our day out such a wonderful memory to treasure."

The Farm

The Farm is set in a corner of the estate known as the Tatton Dale and was in its heyday at the heart of the vast Egerton estate feeding family, guests and staff at the Mansion.

Field To Fork - see how the Farm has been producing food since the 18th century and meet some of the rare breed animals that continue to thrive today. Includes a cookery demonstration in the Clydesdale Barn.

Farming Folk of the 40's tour - meet the characters who lived and worked on the farm in the 1940's like Aunt Mary in the Caretakers Cottage, Mr Wigglesworth the Land Agent and resident Land Army girl Nancy Pringle.

Pistons & Pulleys Tour - step into the three storey agricultural mill to experience the restored machinery as it springs to life. Learn about Lord Egerton's passion for pioneering technology and hear tales about the Miller.

The Old Hall

The Old Hall, Tatton’s “hidden gem”, stands within its own grounds in a quiet wooded area of the parkland near Tatton Mere. Formerly a half-timbered manor house, it is the oldest surviving building at Tatton and Grade II Listed.

Groups can arrange a private tour of the Old Hall by pre-booking.

Helpful tips...

Our specialist tours must be booked and paid for in advance of the visit.

All tours can take between 1 to 2 hours to complete. When including a tour into your itinerary, please allow time to make your way from the coach to the attraction, a short walk away, as well as allowing for the duration of the tour itself.

Please be aware that during the tour, you will be walking and standing for the majority of the time. In some cases we will be able to provide a limited amount of seating.

In order to make sure that everyone is able to hear their tour guide clearly, have an unrestricted view of the space they are in, and fit comfortably into smaller rooms/areas, we have placed maximum restrictions on the amount of people per tour. These restrictions must be taken into consideration when booking a tour.
