Group Visits FAQs

Useful information

The Mansion closes on Mondays and Tuesdays in order for our team to carry out important conservation work. This means we also cannot arrange any private tours on those two days, unless in very special circumstances, as our team will be working in all areas.

Please also note that during Low Season, the Mansion is completely closed on all days of the week except for Christmas opening hours.

Opening Times

Group access to the Japanese Garden is available by pre-booking a private tour only.

The Japanese Garden is an area subject to conservation restrictions. It is carefully maintained and preserved as it was when originally curated by the landscape gardeners from Kyoto over 100 years ago. As such, it is not suitable for heavy foot traffic.

Tatton Park is managed by Cheshire East Council on behalf of the National Trust which means we operate differently to other NT properties and do not receive any financial benefit from your membership.

We offer free admission to the Mansion and Gardens only for National Trust members.

A group must include 15 paid visitors in order to pre-book with us. This can be achieved through booking Farm entry for all group members, or by including a private tour.

If your group does not want to include these two options, your visit should be arranged independently. Groups arriving to Tatton Park on an independent basis will be required to pay for coach entry at the Parkland gate and are responsible for checking our opening times prior to their visit.

No – Tatton Park has a large coach parking facility suitable for many vehicles.

Coach entry is included free of charge when pre-booking a group visit. For coaches arriving to the Parkland without a pre-booked confirmation, the price is £10. This can only be paid on the day of the visit at Rostherne gate.

Yes – however, tickets purchased on the day of the visit will be charged at general admission price and will not receive the groups discount.

Pre-booked group visits do not require physical or digital tickets for admission to our attractions.

A 9-digit reference number will be included with the booking confirmation email sent to group organisers, and this number will be considered as the proof of your booking.

A group visit can only be secured by a £30 deposit made at the time of booking. We cannot hold any details regarding your visit until that payment has been made.

5 – 10 minutes, depending on fitness level.

Groups will arrive at the coach drop-off area adjacent to the Welcome Building and travel along a flat pathway that leads to the Stableyard. Once getting to the other side of this area, you will then go down a flagstone walkway past the Housekeeper’s Store, and across a gravel drive up to the Mansion entrance.

Arrangements can also be made to have your coach stop at the Stableyard to shorten this journey if preferable.

We have a limited number of mobility scooters available for use within the Gardens only. Scooters must be returned to the Garden Shop exit after use.

The Mansion is not suitable for mobility scooters to be used inside, but manual wheelchairs are available if required.

Accessibility at Tatton

Yes – the restaurant is primarily a free-flow dining facility and visitors can purchase food and drinks at any time during their visit. However, if your group would like to guarantee being able to sit and eat together, we would highly recommend pre-booking your catering.
