"Letters and souvenirs"
- Join us for this exciting creative writing workshop with former Cheshire Poet Laureate, published author, playwright and experienced workshop facilitator, Joy Winkler. The focus of this workshop is inspired by the themes of Tatton Park's 2026 Canaletto exhibition. Of this workshop, Joy says: "How much of what we write will be kept and read by future generations we cannot possibly know. And although we can imagine what the world will look like and what will be revered and admired in a time to come, life in the future will remain just that – imagined, a mystery. In this workshop, we are the future for Samuel Egerton, privy to his letters and souvenirs resulting from his thousand-mile journey by land and sea to his first job in Venice. Apprenticed to the influential art dealer Joseph Smith, he found himself at the heart of a pivotal period in the early career of one of the most celebrated artists, Canaletto. The content of the letters and souvenirs which are part of an exhibition will be available to us, so that we can put our creative imaginations to work and review Samuel's life and travels. Or indeed we might imagine an adventure of our own which could be looked back on by writers in the future."
