An Introduction to Plein Art Oil Painting

Date(s)
06 July 2022
Description
Oil painting workshop web

A tutored oil painting workshop for beginners with talented local artist, David Barber. This workshop will cover everything you need to know to create your own plein air oil paintings. This four hour session will begin with an explanation of the challenges faced when plein air painting. This will include preparation of equipment for differing weather conditions,  what's essential and what isn't, selecting a suitable location, dealing with changing light etc. The workshop will cover how to work quickly to capture a scene without wasting time over-working details and will cover what to keep and what to leave out of the painting.

Following the introduction, guests will then have the opportunity to create their own plein air painting in the Tatton Park grounds, with the support of the tutor who will guide them with a step by step demonstration of each stage of the process. Participants will need to bring their own materials and for this session you will need: your own oil paints, solvents & mediums, brushes & a lightweight easel and a couple of canvas boards or prepared panels. The tutor will have some spares available of all of the above. Park entry on the day of the event is included within the ticket price.
