Japanese Tanabata Week in the Gardens - 19 - 23 August

Celebrate Tanabata (Star Festival) at Tatton Park for a week this summer, celebrating the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively). According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar. To celebrate this festival, Tatton Park will be supported by members of the Japanese embassy and Japanese students. Enjoy Japanese tea ceremony experiences, origami and calligraphy workshops, Taiku drumming, traditional demonstrations, lectures and a Japanese arts and craft fair. Join in traditional bamboo games and tie a ribbon to a bamboo stalk while you make a wish.
