Education Programme

We offer a series of:

Living History Days

This is a full day option, involving role play and ‘hands-on’ activities within period properties. These sessions transport children back through history to various periods such as: Anglo Saxon, Medieval, Tudor, Elizabethan, Victorian and the 1940s period. Meet a variety of costumed interpreters throughout your day.

Site Tours

Site tours are available at the Old Hall, Mansion, Home Farm and Pleasure Gardens. Different combination of sites can be visited making this a versatile option for a day out. We recommend you choose two options for a full day or one option for half a day and allow some time to enjoy the parkland or adventure playground.

Themed Study Tours

Themed study tours are special sessions which particularly link to our younger visitors such as the popular story time and rhyme sessions like Old MacDonald at the Farm, Cinderella at the Mansion, Sleeping Beauty in the Gardens and Christmas related sessions.

Hands on History Days

This session caters for groups between 60 and 228 children and can be set in Anglo- Saxon, Medieval or Tudor times. Children will have the opportunity to learn about the chosen period through practical hands-on activities that bring village and manor life alive. Falconry or period music can be organised as an extra charge.  Available summer term only.

Environmental Days

Environmental sessions are Science and Geography-based which have been designed to enhance research and analysis skills. These programmes are run by our experienced Rangers. There are half day and full day options relating to deer walks, pond dipping and mini-beast hunts.

Literature Sessions

Explore literature texts in context. This programme offers teachers and students the opportunity to gain awareness of the social, historical and cultural factors which influence texts and our understanding of them. In addition it offers stimulus for the study of texts and production of coursework. Themes include Macbeth, Shakespeare and Henry James' classic pre - 1914 ghost story, The Turn of the Screw.
