We offer a series of:
Living History Days
This is a full day option, involving role play and ‘hands-on’
activities within period properties. These sessions transport
children back through history to various periods such as: Anglo
Saxon, Viking, Medieval, Tudor, Elizabethan, Victorian,
Gardener Apprentice. We also do a combined Victorian/Gardener
Apprentice. Finally 1940's period. Meet a variety
of costumed interpreters throughout your day.
Site tours are available at the Old Hall, Mansion, Home Farm and
Pleasure Gardens. Different combination of sites can be visited
making this a versatile option for a day out. We recommend you
choose two options for a full day or one option for half a day and
allow some time to enjoy the parkland or adventure playground.
Themed Study Tours
Themed study tours are special sessions which particularly link
to our younger visitors such as the popular story time and rhyme
sessions like Old MacDonald at the Farm, Cinderella at the Mansion,
Sleeping Beauty in the Gardens and Christmas related sessions.
Hands on History Days
This session caters for groups between 60 and 228 children and
can be set in Anglo- Saxon, Medieval or Tudor times. Children will
have the opportunity to learn about the chosen period through
practical hands-on activities that bring village and manor life
alive. Falconry or period music can be organised as an extra
charge. Available summer term only.
Environmental sessions are Science and Geography-based which
have been designed to enhance research and analysis skills. These
programmes are run by our experienced Rangers. There are half day
and full day options relating to deer walks, pond dipping and
Explore literature texts in context. This
programme offers teachers and students the opportunity to gain
awareness of the social, historical and cultural factors which
influence texts and our understanding of them. In addition it
offers stimulus for the study of texts and production of
coursework. Themes include Macbeth and Henry James' classic pre -
1914 ghost story, The Turn of the Screw.
