Tatton’s sheep racing well underway – next week may result in some surprises!

The first week of racing at Tatton Park’s farm has gone in line with the bookies predictions as Bumble, a rare breed Hebridean, is at the top of the leader board as the event goes in to its first weekend.

The running has been soft all week but with conditions set to change there are high hopes that Beastie, the heaviest of the runners, will come in to form but results will be difficult to predict.

Thankfully all runners have completed this week’s races although Honey, an outsider from Tatton’s parkland, has threatened to be a non starter on a number of occasions. With the lure of food she got to the starting line on time.

Farm assistant and head trainer Ellie Edwards commenting from the trainer’s yard said ‘We’re expecting to see solid performances from Bee over the weekend despite the running being harder but hoping that Buzz will find his lucky streak as the ground firms up.

Visitors can see these races at 3.30pm every day at Tatton’s farm. Part of a programme of summer holidays activities for children, they run until Friday August 28.
