Family Learning Programme

What is family learning?

Aimed at engaging both parents and children in learning, the family learning programme at Tatton Park also fosters and develops the parent/child relationship. In the safe environment created by the different sites at Tatton Park, parents and children can develop a new understanding of each other and how they can best assist in broadening their horizons.

The Family Learning programme at Tatton Park is run through the Family Learning Department at Cheshire County Council and booked through schools. A variety of activities are on offer and groups can visit the farm, Old Hall or Gardens.

There is the opportunity to feed the chickens and goats as well as to groom the donkeys. Older children are also introduced to the historical aspects of the site and its associations with World War Two.

archery The gardens' activity offers children and their families many different opportunities. From following a travelling theme visiting different countries linked to Tatton’s gardens to discovering what life was like as a Victorian Garden Apprentice and the wonders that woodlands have to offer. This activity offers the opportunity for children and families to learn about growing and take home a plant they have sown themselves. The gardens and woodland offer a sensory experience for children and parents alike.

The Old Hall offers the unique opportunity for families to explore and learn in a historical setting. Join our staff who will reveal the mysteries behind different buildings, shapes and how they were made. Uncover the stories behind those who lived at the Old Hall and using hands-on activities to stimulate discussion, think about the differences between the way we live now and how they lived then. Families take part in a variety of activities from making a wattle and daub panel to playing games from the past and grinding their own flour to take home.
