Christmas for Schools at Tatton Park
A trip to Tatton Park at Christmas is a magical experience for children; a chance to experience the atmosphere and excitement of a big country estate as it prepares for its Seasonal Festivities. Whether in the splendid surroundings of the traditionally decorated Mansion House or the cosy intimacy of the Home Farm, children are guaranteed an experience that will get their Christmas off to an unforgettable start.
Christmas Decorations in the Mansion
A costumed Victorian servant guides the children around the gloriously decorated Mansion, which is transformed during this seasonal period with stunning garlands and greenery sourced from Tatton’s Parkland and Gardens. At the end of the tour, Children sing a carol underneath the enormous Christmas tree in the Grand Staircase Hall and are escorted to the servants' quarters. Here, children are shown the kitchens where the Egerton family’s elaborate Christmas feast was prepared. The servant also provides a demonstration of how decorations were made in the past and each child has the opportunity to create a traditional decoration to take home. Duration: 1 hour.
Meet Father Christmas at the Home Farm
Children walk down the lane to our traditional Home Farm, where among the lovingly cared for animals, Father Christmas is resting in his grotto before his busy season starts. A visit to the nativity scene with its live animals includes singing a traditional carol. Children visit the delightful inhabitants of the farmyard – the horses, pigs, cows goats and chickens – many of whom have names and histories. They then sing a jolly seasonal song outside Father Christmas' grotto before going in in twos and threes to receive their very own present to take home. Duration: 1 hour.
