Tatton Park plays host to a wide range of public events during the year. Our annual calendar offers a broad variety of events and includes antique fairs, classic car shows, flower shows, spectacular outdoor concerts and Christmas events.

Details of confirmed events up to Christmas 2010 are given below. This list is updated weekly as new events are confirmed. You can also download a copy of the latest annual Events Guide

If a telephone number is not listed within an entry, or if you wish to obtain further information, please telephone Tatton Park on 01625 374400.

The information below was correct at the time of press but changes may be introduced without notice.

For most events the Park's entry charge applies. This charge includes admission to the deer park and adventure playground.


Please note: National Trust members are required to pay for entry into special events and car entry to the Park.

Sunday March 14th

Mothering Sunday

Treat Mum this year to afternoon tea in Tatton's Mansion and a visit to the estate's beautiful 50 acre garden. A table will be reserved for you in Lord Egerton's apartment, with stunning views over the Italian Terrace and parkland, where you'll enjoy a selection of sandwiches, freshly baked scones and cakes with tea and coffee. You'll be welcome to stroll round the award winning gardens during your visit.

Tickets £18 per person and include car entry.

Cheshire Youth Ensembles

Enjoy a Mother's Day celebration with the Cheshire Youth Ensembles in the striking Tenants' Hall, commencing at 7pm.

Pieces will include Carmen, Cosi fan Tutti and Jupiter from the Planets suite.  Come and enjoy a wonderful evening of music with the Cheshire Youth Orchestra, Cheshire Youth Training Orchestra and the Cheshire Youth Choir.

Cultivate and Celebrate. Treasures of the Kitchen Garden exhibition


Inspired by the Kitchen Garden, artist in residence Christine Wilcox Baker explores the relationship between the gardens at Tatton and its Mansion kitchens. Drawings, photographs, paintings and mixed media installations sited in both the Gardens and the Mansion will portray kitchen garden produce as items to be celebrated, treasured and cared for.

Tatton Park Biennial 2010 - Mansion Exhibition



Focusing on the creation and understand of identity, this exhibition wil interpret artists' responses to the site and inspirations from Tatton's collection. Text, books, artworks, film, archive materials and children's activity sheets will help to tell some of the estate's stories and their relevance to contemporary life and culture.

Presenter Fiona Bruce and the team of leading antiques and fine arts specialists will be available for free advice and valuations. Raid your attics and bring your treasures along to the experts on the day. Champagne and Flowers

An exclusive evening gardening event and a rare opportunity to enjoy Tatton's gardens in the early summer at its seasonal best for Rhododendron and Azaleas.  Enjoy a glass of champagne and a tour of the gardens by one of Tatton's craftsmen gardeners.   Then take your table in the Lord Egerton's Apartment in Tatton's Mansion where you will enjoy a three course dinner created using locally grown and sourced foods.  The evening's entertainment will be provided by Tatton's very own Head Gardener, Sam Youd, who will share many of his amusing garden anecdotes and stories.

If you have begun your family tree research this lecture is ideal for you.  Gay Oliver and Alan Bennett, from the Family History Society of Cheshire, provide their top tips, including how to overcome research problems you may have encountered.  They will be on hand to answer your questions on sources and expand on the current archive research based on the family and staff at Tatton during the life time of the Egerton family.

Theatre Set Up - The Merchant of Venice

Three caskets of gold, silver and lead, a pound of flesh to be taken from nearest the heart of a merchant of Venice by Shylock, a vengeful usurer, masquerades, a beautiful heiress who disguises herself as a man and solves everyone's problems and a lovely Jewess who escapes the clutches of her farther during a Venetian Carnival are all in the famous Shakespearean comedy.Theatre Set Up produce the play in the light of the Cabbala Tree of Life, costuming in the 18th century Venetian Carnival-style dress with music by Mozart.

Illyria brings the world's most popular children's author, Roald Dahl, to the open-air stage. James is an orphan who is sent to live with his two terrible aunts. Northern BMW Festival

Now in its 11th year. Tatton Park once again plays host to the largest gathering of BMW's in the North of England.With a concourse competition, a huge Show & Shine competition.BMW race cars on display.Regular displays from the likes of M Power, ZED and Alpina, plus the new MINI Register, cars for sale, specialist trade stands, autojumble etc. There really is something for everyone interested in the BMW marque.All BMW owners are welcome to join the fun.With a children's fairground to keep the young one's happy and all the attractions that Tatton Park has to offer, the show really makes for a fun day out for all the family.

Halle Fireworks & Light Spectacular

An evening of sensational opera and fireworks comes to Tatton Park this summer with the world-famous Halle, conducted by Stephen bell and very special guest stars Wynne Evans and Natasha Marsh.  This year's concert will feature ever-popular classic with arias and duets by Puccini, Verdi, Dvorak and Bizet including O Mio Babbino Caro, Rusalka's Song to the Moon, the Love Duet from 'Madam Butterfly' and the soaring Nessun Dorma.

The famously theatrical firework finale will be set to highlights of opera's most dramatic music ever: Wagner's masterpiece 'The Ring'.  The magnificent Ride of the Valkyries and the heroics of Siegfried and the Gods will come alive in time to breathkaing percussive fireworks.

Illyria Outdoor Theatre Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

Shakespeare states in the opening 10 lines of this play that it is an explosive swashbuckling romance with a thrilling storyline and more laughs than tears. The Montagus and the Capulets are at war with one another - but when Montagu's son falls in love with Capulet's daughter at a party a chain-reaction of events is set in motion which has a devastating conclusion. Illyria last performed this terrific play 10 years ago; the production was Critic's Choice in Edinburgh, attracted 5-star reviews in Canada and received a nomination for Best of Fringe in Vancouver.

Mansion Exhibition: Elizabeth Gaskell's Cheshire

Knutsford, where Elizabeth Gaskell grew up is well known as her inspiration for 'Cranford'. But other stories and her letters also tell of her links with Tatton Park and Dunham, Tabley House and Capesthorne, and the Cheshire countryside.  Dr. Peter Holland, her uncle, attended the Egertons at Tatton Park much as she protrayed; him in 'Wives and Daughters'.  Exhibition designed by local historian Joan leach MBE.

Lunchtime Lecture - The Italian Connection: The Egerton and Italy

From Samuel Egerton's apprenticeship in Venice in the 1730's to Alan de Tatton Egerton's trips to Genoa in the 20th century, the Egerton family have visited Italy, furnished their homes, purchased artworks and books and even designed a formal garden very much in the Italian style.Whether visiting as part of the Grand Tour or on business, genteel families have absorbed and reinterpreted the art and culture of Italy in their 'country houses' throughout the centuries.Find out how this is reflected at Tatton park in a lecture by Caroline Schofield and Sam Youd on the Italian Connections - The Egertons and Italy. Members of the American Civil War Society are among the most approachable and enthusiastic re-enactors on the living history scene.  Share the myth, romance and reality of the period as you walk and talk your way through their encampment. Skirmish and gunfire, bugle and drum as well as rest and recreation offer vignettes of other lives. A great opportunity for photographers

Celebrating the bicentenary of Elizabeth Gaskell's birth, Joan Leach MBE, local historian and writer, gives an insightful talk about this renowned author and her links with the local town of Knutsford and the surrounding area. The talk will be followed by a tour of the Mansion and includes a visit to the exhibition featuring Elizabeth Gaskell's Cheshire.   Talk takes place in the impressive Mansion Entrance Hall.

Taste buds across the region are set to be tantalised as the North West Food Lovers Festival arrives at Tatton Park from the 22nd to 24th October, 2010.  The festival, which will showcase the very best of ‘North-Westness’, will encompass two weeks of ‘foodie’ events involving restaurants and fine food stores in the area, with the highlight of the fortnight being the Taste Festival at Tatton Park.
