Old Hall
Standing within its own grounds in a quiet part of the park and having its own cruck barn, the Tudor Old Hall has a special atmosphere caused by time and place. Nearby is the disappeared Tatton village where the tofts and crofts of medieval houses once stood and where ancient roadways were hollowed out by centuries of tramping feet. The village site and surroundings go beyond the medieval, back into Anglo-Saxon and Iron Age times through to the Neolithic and Mesolithic periods of 3,000 and 10,000 years ago. Both the Old Hall and village sites are scheduled ancient monuments.
The Old Hall offers a good base for walking and exploring many of the historic areas of the Park and for viewing wildlife. It has vibrant and active education programmes for schools and adults and is a venue for a number of events such as outdoor theatre and living history that benefit from this unique setting. Children are welcome and there is always an element of ‘hands on’ history for them. Enjoy a 'Tour through Time' on special open days when a visit recreates life as it would have been in bygone years. Visitors often feed back that a tour of the Old Hall is both enjoyable and informative and recommend others to make the time to visit Tatton’s hidden gem.
